Myli Gorge Bike Tour: An Unforgettable and Safe Cycling Experience in Rethymno
Discover the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Rethymno with the unique Myli Gorge Bike Tour. The tour begins at our office and heads to Rethymno’s beach, a long sandy shore with crystal-clear waters, known for the Caretta Caretta sea turtles and its wide promenades lined with impressive palm trees. From there, we follow the main road leading to the Halevi Monastery, where we make our first stop.
The Halevi Monastery is a historic landmark with great cultural significance. Built in a tranquil location, it served as a center of religious and social life during the Venetian period. Visitors can admire its traditional architecture and learn about its history, which is closely connected to the resistance during the Ottoman era.
We continue our journey on electric bikes to the Myli Gorge, a hidden paradise of natural beauty. Here, we leave the bikes behind and enjoy a 20-minute hike through the impressive gorge, filled with lush vegetation, flowing waters, and small waterfalls. Our experienced and knowledgeable guide, who speaks fluent English, accompanies the group, sharing valuable insights about the area and its history.
After exploring the gorge, we return to the electric bikes and head to the picturesque village of Chromonastiri. This charming village, with its cobbled streets and peaceful atmosphere, is one of Rethymno’s gems. A special stop here is the War Museum, featuring an impressive collection of exhibits. Tanks, helicopters, and other military vehicles from the past are displayed in the museum’s outdoor area, creating a unique experience that combines history with awe.
In the village square of Chromonastiri, we take a refreshing break, enjoying a soft drink of (lemonade, orange, or water), included in the tour price. It’s the perfect moment to relax and recharge before continuing our adventure.
After the break, we cycle to the village of Roussospiti, where we visit the Monastery of Saint Irene, a women’s monastery with a history dating back to the Venetian period. This serene and tranquil monastery has played a vital role in the spiritual and social life of the area.
Our return to Rethymno takes us through the Prophet Elias area, known for its breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Cretan sea. This route offers fantastic photo opportunities and moments of tranquility before we conclude the tour at our office, where we started.
